Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 18, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what information newenglandwingmen.com (the “Site”) collects when you read our recipes, leave a comment or sign up for our newsletter, how we use that information, and the choices you have. The Site is run by New England WingMen (“we” or “us”). There are no user accounts on the Site and nothing is sold on it.

The short version

  • Our site analytics don’t use cookies and don’t identify you.
  • If you comment on a recipe, we keep your name, email address and comment. Your name and comment are published once we approve them; your email address never is.
  • If you sign up for our newsletter, Mailchimp keeps your email address for us until you unsubscribe.
  • Amazon affiliate links and product widgets, embedded YouTube videos, Google Fonts and Gravatar profile pictures load from those companies’ servers, and those companies may collect information or set cookies under their own privacy policies.
  • We never sell or rent the names and email addresses you give us.

Affiliate disclosure

As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases. NewEnglandWingmen.com is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. Pages on this Site may include affiliate links to Amazon and its affiliate sites, on which the owner of this website earns a referral commission. This doesn’t change the price you pay.

Information we collect

When you visit the Site

The Site is hosted by Vercel. Like any web host, Vercel receives the technical details your browser sends with each request, such as your IP address, browser type, the page you asked for and the page you came from, and uses them to deliver pages and protect the Site from attacks.

We use Vercel Web Analytics and Vercel Speed Insights to see, in aggregate, which pages are popular and how quickly they load. Neither one uses cookies. According to Vercel, page views are recorded anonymously: a visit is recognized only by a hash created from the incoming request, which is discarded after 24 hours, and IP addresses are not stored with the data. What gets recorded is the page you viewed, the website that referred you, your approximate location (country, region and city, worked out from your IP address), your browser, operating system and device type, and, for Speed Insights, how long the page took to load and your network speed (for example, “4g”).

When you comment on a recipe

Our recipe pages have a comment form. When you send a comment, we collect:

  • your name, which is published with your comment;
  • your email address, which is required but never published;
  • your comment, and the date, time and page you left it on.

We review every comment before it appears. Comments are stored in a private Vercel Blob storage account that only we can access. Once a comment is approved, your name, the comment and its date appear on the recipe page and in the Site’s comment RSS feeds, where anyone can read them and feed readers or archiving services may copy them.

To keep spam off the Site, the comment form also includes a hidden field that people never see, notes how long the page was open before the comment was sent, and runs Vercel BotID, a check in your browser that looks at technical signals from your browser and device to tell people from automated bots. We use your IP address to limit how many comments can be sent from one connection in an hour; it is held briefly in the server’s memory and is not saved with your comment.

Comments carried over from our earlier WordPress site show profile pictures (“avatars”) from Gravatar, a service run by Automattic, so loading those pages sends a request to Gravatar’s servers. New comments show a generic avatar, and we do not send your email address to Gravatar.

When you sign up for our newsletter

Our newsletter sign-up form and pop-up are provided by Mailchimp, which is part of Intuit. If you sign up, the email address you enter goes directly to Mailchimp, which stores it, along with details Mailchimp records about the sign-up such as the time and your IP address, and sends our emails for us. The pop-up sets small cookies (MCPopupClosed and MCPopupSubscribed) so that it doesn’t keep appearing after you close it or subscribe. Every newsletter email includes an unsubscribe link.

When you email us

If you write to us, we receive your email address and whatever you include in your message, and we use them to reply.

How we use your information

  • To review, publish and manage comments.
  • To contact you about a comment you left, if we need to.
  • To send our newsletter, if you signed up for it.
  • To understand, in aggregate, how the Site is used and how quickly it loads.
  • To keep spam and abuse off the Site.
  • To comply with the law, respond to lawful requests, and protect our rights.

We don’t add commenters to our newsletter, and we never sell or rent the names and email addresses you give us.

Third-party services, cookies and advertising

Some content on the Site loads from other companies’ servers. When it does, your browser sends those companies your IP address and browser details, and they may collect information or set cookies under their own privacy policies:

  • Amazon. Product links, product widgets and ads on the Site come from Amazon, including from amazon-adsystem.com. Third parties, including Amazon and other advertisers, may serve content and advertisements, collect information directly from visitors, and place or recognize cookies on visitors’ browsers. Amazon also uses cookies to credit us when you buy something after clicking one of our links. See the Amazon.com Privacy Notice.
  • YouTube (Google). Some recipe and how-to posts include embedded YouTube videos. YouTube may set cookies and collect information when a page with a video loads, even if you don’t play it. See the Google Privacy Policy.
  • Google Fonts. The Site’s fonts load from Google’s servers. See the Google Fonts privacy FAQ.
  • Mailchimp (Intuit). Our newsletter sign-up form, pop-up and emails. See the Intuit Global Privacy Statement.
  • Gravatar (Automattic). Profile pictures on older comments. See Automattic’s privacy policy.
  • Vercel. Hosting, analytics, Speed Insights, spam protection and comment storage. See the Vercel Privacy Notice.

Links to our Facebook, Instagram, X, Pinterest and YouTube pages are ordinary links; those sites don’t load on our pages unless you click through.

Your choices

  • Cookies. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; allaboutcookies.org explains how. Most of the Site works without cookies, though some third-party content, such as videos and Amazon widgets, may not.
  • Interest-based ads. You can opt out of interest-based ads from Amazon on Amazon’s Advertising Preferences page, from Google in My Ad Center, and from many other ad companies through the Digital Advertising Alliance and the Network Advertising Initiative.
  • Newsletter. Use the unsubscribe link in any newsletter email.
  • Comments. Email us to have a comment you left corrected or removed.
  • Do Not Track. The Site doesn’t change what it does when your browser sends a Do Not Track signal. Our own analytics don’t use cookies or identify you either way; third-party services follow their own policies.

How long we keep information

  • Published comments stay on the Site until we remove them or you ask us to.
  • Comments waiting for review are kept until we review them. Comments we reject are deleted right away, and comments caught by our spam filter are deleted after 30 days.
  • Your newsletter subscription stays active until you unsubscribe. Mailchimp keeps a record that you unsubscribed so that you aren’t emailed again.
  • Vercel keeps analytics only as aggregated statistics, and the hash used to recognize a visit is discarded after 24 hours.
  • Emails you send us are kept as long as we need them to deal with your message.

Children’s privacy

The Site is meant for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, for example in a comment, contact us and we will delete it.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, including the European Union, the United Kingdom and several U.S. states, you may have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to or restrict how we use it, and to get a copy of it. You can withdraw any consent you’ve given, for example by unsubscribing from the newsletter, and you can complain to your local data protection authority. To make a request, email us at the address below; we will respond within the time the law requires.

If you are in the EU or UK: we rely on your consent to send the newsletter, and on our legitimate interests in running a recipe site, publishing and moderating comments, preventing spam and understanding how the Site is used for everything else. We and the services we use are based in the United States, so your information is processed in the United States.

Security

Comments are stored privately, and the page we use to review them is password-protected. No website or online service is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect the information you give us.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when the Site or the services we use change, or for legal or regulatory reasons. When we do, we’ll change the “Last updated” date at the top of this page.
